GBbet editorial desk·Updated

This is where our own writing goes: explainers about the rules that decide what a British bookmaker pays you, and about the licence conditions that decide what it is allowed to ask of you. Everything here is written for someone who already bets and has run into a specific question – a settled bet that paid less than the odds implied, a withdrawal held up by a document request, an offer whose terms do not read the way the advert did.

Everything in this section

The sources are the same three every time: the Gambling Commission's public register and its Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice, the operator's own published terms, and the rules of the British body that governs the sport or the settlement in question. Where a figure is not in one of those, we describe the mechanism in words instead of inventing a number. Nothing in this section is a tip, a prediction or a recommendation to bet, and no piece here is paid for by an operator.

Two things shape almost every article below. The first is that the Gambling Commission licenses the operator rather than the bet, so a rule that looks like your bookmaker's choice is often a licence condition and a rule that looks official is often commercial. The second is that the January 2026 conditions – the ten-times cap on wagering and the ban on cross-product promotions – changed what a British offer can contain, which is why older comparison pages and their numbers no longer describe the British market.

Written and checked by the GBbet editorial desk

Licence numbers are checked against the Gambling Commission public register; bonus terms, minimum odds and payment limits are read from the operator’s own published pages. Nothing here is a personal opinion, and no page is rated by stars — how we work · about the desk.
