- The layout of the track is not revealed until after the race. This puts future bets on hold while you speculate on which horses would do well on which type of track.
- Winning the Kentucky Derby does not guarantee that a horse will win the Preakness Stakes. But horseplayers tend to include these two races in their trifectas and superfectas because they know the winners tend to be fast and the distances aren't longer than the horses can handle. The payouts are small because the winners are usually well known, and you'd have to be very lucky or very good not to be playing the same Horse Player 101 game as everyone else.
